The simulation of a reinforced protective dam with ROFMOD is carried out in the following steps:

1.preparation: Providing the position and geometry of the existing or planned dam.

2.geometry definition:
- In the tab Profile Definition select the submenu 'Dam Definition'. Press the 'Preview Dam Line' button and then exactly place the geometry and position of the green dam line on the terrain profile.
- Press the 'Save to Profile' button: The 4 points of the dam definition are taken over as profile points. Delete any disturbing profile points.

3.If necessary, adjust the underground parameters in the dam area in the Terrain Definition tab.

4.simulation:
- In the tab Rockfall Simulation under 'Simulation Settings' select 'Consider Block Axes'.
- 'Run Simulation' starts the calculation of the fall trajectories whose course is influenced by the dam geometry (possibly stopping the trajectory for steep impact angles) without checking the safety of the dam.
- Under Sub-Tab 'Impact Details' press the button 'fit to dam'

5.geotechnical parameters and simulation of the dam:
- In the tab Dam / Statistics set the geotechnical values for friction angle, tensile strength, etc. of the dam body.
- Press 'Compute Dam Statistics': In the 'Impacts' window, the list of all impacts on the dam flank is displayed. If a specific block is selected in this list, its simulation results are displayed graphically and numerically on the right.

6.optimization of position and geometry of the dam:
- The position and geometry of the simulated dam can be evaluated with the help of the statistics for all simulated fall trajectories (number of overflying blocks, number of overrollers, number of dam hits with calculated safety factors).
- For the optimization of the dam geometry the tab Dam / Playground is used: A specific block for which e.g. an insufficient safety was calculated is selected and its parameters (energy, angle of incidence, etc.) are exported with the button 'Copy Impact to Playground' into the test environment 'Playground'. The dam geometry can then be optimized until the desired safety is achieved. The dam geometry must then be adjusted manually in 2).
